7.2.09 Rome.

colosseo!

Today we landed in Rome after quite the journey of getting there and began right away on a visit to the Colosseum. I had forgotten how incredible and huge the Colosseum is and was again astounded by its amazing architecture. Things were great – we all took our pictures in front of the Colosseum and we were just happily walking down the street in the lovely weather when out of no where, the heavens opened and poured every single drop of rain on us. Oh and as if that wasn’t enough, the hail came as well and hail the size of small rocks pelted us too. We were totally caught off guard and just huddled together near some historic wall to try and stay dry and not get hit by lighting. It was just so funny to just stand, totally drenched from head to toe, having not slept for the past 36 hours and we just laughed.

and the rain just came and came...

Finally the rain passed after about a solid hour, or at least that’s what it felt like and we headed to the Museum Capitallini. It is a building at the top of a hill hat celebrates the independence of Italy. It was a beautiful building with an open courtyard that showcased some interesting sculptures of random body parts. The upper levels housed beautiful sculptures and wonderful views of bellissimo Roma. Seeing the Rome skyline at sunset was incredible and I loved looking at all the buildings, with their rich histories and pasts and classic architecture. Everywhere you look there is another structure that was part of ancient Rome or was designed by a brilliant artist of their day. It is like nothing else really.
